When you hear of Columbia, TN you probably think about Mom and Pop restaurants and comfort food. But big things are happening in our little town! Now, we can add a trendy, vegan, environmentally-conscious restaurant to our repertoire. The Dotted Lime was founded by Chrissy and Paul Jensen. Their vision is to utilize locally raised meats and gluten free/vegan alternatives. The restaurant is family owned and operated and also very kid friendly.
The menu ranges from vegan, gluten free, soy free, dairy free, corn free, to southern style biscuit burgers with bacon. Our experience was extremely positive (and delicious!) One of the many unique items on their menu is homemade soda. We tried the ginger ale and the blackberry sangria. Possibly my only disappointment of the day was that there was no wine in my sangria! But nobody’s perfect, right?
While we definitely appreciate healthy vegan food, naturally we picked the meatiest options on the menu (old habits die hard): Piggies in Paradise made with fresh “panzzinos”, pulled pork, garlic hummus, bacon, cucumbers, Asian style sauce, and jalapeños. And, the Bacon biscuit burger Made with local Hippo Hollow Farm ground beef, bacon, Gouda, purple onions, tomatoes, and shoestring fried potatoes. Both come with a small side salad. The chef delivered our food himself, which made it much more personal. The kitchen is open, so customers can really experience all the sounds and smells and preparation.
Probably my favorite part of the meal: fresh baked Vegan Cinnamon Rolls. I really don’t know how that works, but they were amazing!
