Two new names for your Columbia list this fall: one set its opening for October, and one we’re still waiting on.
Kilwins, 27 Public Square
Kilwins set Monday, Oct. 12 as opening day for its shop on the square. It joins Kilwins shops in downtown Franklin and Nashville, and the Columbia store is run by owner-operators Sam and Hayden Cross.
Kilwins has been around since 1947. Expect fudge made in the store, caramel apples, caramel corn, chocolates and ice cream in waffle cones.
- Hours: Monday through Thursday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Sunday noon to 5 p.m.
- Phone: 931-208-0820
Tare Bulk Foods, 1211 South Garden Street
Tare is a refill grocery from Mitchell and Amelia Wilson, who opened their first store in Dickson in May 2024. Columbia will be store number two.
It works differently from a regular grocery. Bring your own jars, bags or bottles, have them weighed at the door, scoop what you need, and pay only for what’s inside. Bringing your own containers saves 5%. Paper bags are free and glass jars are available for a charge.
The shelves hold more than 500 products, nearly all organic or non-GMO, including teas, spices, herbs, baking ingredients, dried fruit, nuts, coffee, oils and household goods.
One caution: Tare was expected to open here in October, but its website still says “coming soon” and we haven’t been able to confirm a date. Call 931-350-9570 before you load up your jars. Planned hours are Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
